The Worst Part For Kids

The worst part for about diabetes is how different it makes you feel. Like when you're over a friends house and the ice cream truck comes along. Everyone is getting ice cream while you get a bottled water. Believe me, it's no fun. I've had that experience. You can feel different about pretty much anything during diabetes.

If you're the oldest child like me and you never got that much attention, be prepared. Fights with siblings might occur because they, being younger, may think that your parents love you more. Not true. You actually might get tired of all of the attenion. Once I got really sick in the middle of the night. My dad stayed up with me the entire time. I would rather it have been Kristin with all of the attention instead of me.

At first she didn't like me because of all of the attention. "I felt half sad and half mad because I was afraid that you would get all of the attention." Those were her exact words. "I feel very happy because I can play with you(Kari)." That's how she feels now.

I was upset because I could never hang out or play with Kristin anymore. It stunk and I hated it. My blood sugar was all over the place and I was always cooped up in the house. Now everything is better and I'm happy.

Kari is now on an insulin pump. The experiences in this article were when she was on Humulin and Humalog. She has also been on a Lantus insulin regime. I wrote an article about that experience in last month's newsletter. You can read it here: Humulin or Lantus? by Russell Turner
