Rusty's RamblingsNovember 2004 The other day I was talking to my father. He was telling me about this new hearing aid he had just purchased. He went on and on about the new features, how small it was, and how much he paid for it. He went into all the things that he could now hear that he had been missing. My mother added that you could no longer hear the TV from the driveway. This went on for 5 solid minutes. Finally when he took a breath I asked him "what kind is it"? He said "it's about 5:30". As we all know being the parent of a diabetic child is a series of small victories and defeats. Sometimes things go perfectly and we breathe a sigh of relief. Sometimes it's like talking to my father, and we want to bang our heads on the table. One of the important things to remember is we are not alone. The last statistic I read somewhere was 3000 new cases of Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes per year were being diagnosed. That's a lot of company. It's not usually that hard to find some kind of support group in whatever area you live in. Look around. Some hospitals offer them. I've seen ads in my local paper offering them. There are tons of them on the internet. Try one out. If it does nothing else for you it will show you somebody somewhere has it even tougher than you. We have to stick together. still nursing a sore head, Rusty
